In preparation for the presidential election due to be held in November 2008, candidates wanting to represent the two main US political parties--the Republican Party (sometimes referred to as the Grand Old Party--GOP) of incumbent President George W. Bush and the Democratic Party--had started campaigning to win official nomination by their respective parties.
