Spokesmen for the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) announced on May 13 that a senior Talibaan leader, Mullah Dadullah, had been killed in fighting in Helmand province. His body was shown to reporters in Kandahar, and his death was eventually confirmed by the Talibaan, after initial denials. ISAF officials claimed that the loss of Dadullah would be a serious setback to the resurgent Talibaan.
