Jun 2008 - Failure of no-confidence vote against Samak
Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej on June 27 survived, with seven of his cabinet ministers, motions of no-confidence at the end of a three-day debate in the House of Representatives (the lower house of the bicameral legislature). Out of the 442 legislators present, Samak received 280 votes of confidence against 162 votes of no-confidence. The other ministers, who won their votes by very similar margins, were Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Surapong Suebwonglee, Deputy Prime Minister and Commerce Minister Mingkwan Saengsuwan, Interior Minister Pol. Capt. Chalerm Yubamrung, Transport Minister Santi Promphat, Justice Minister Sompong Amornwiwat, Foreign Minister Noppadon Pattama, and Deputy Transport Minister Songsak Thongsi.
Although Samak comfortably survived the opposition Democrat Party (DP) challenge, commentators thought it likely that he would feel obliged to carry out a cabinet ...
