Nov 1945 - Disclosure of Aid to Allies during War. - New Siamese Government.
The U.S. Office of Strategic Services disclosed on Sept. 9 that Siam had, during the war, acted as a secret partner of the United Nations while ostensibly masquerading as a Japanese “puppet” State.
The report said that almost the whole Siamese Government formed after the overthrow of Marshal Luang Pribul Songgram in 1944 (see 6925 A) was in league with the Allies; that Siam was one of the very few sources of direct information about the Japanese; that while technically at war with the Allies the Siamese authorities harboured U.S. Army officers in Bangkok and helped them to establish 12 jungle camps to train guerrillas to strike against Japan when the Allied High Command should give the signal for a general rising; that the Regent Luang Pradit Manudharm was the leader of the resistance against Japan; and that through the medium of the OSS and its British counterpart ...
